When your own words don't seem adequate... borrow some.

"Only your real friends tell you when your face is dirty."

A real friend is never afraid of hurting your feelings in a time of need, or when the truth needs to be told. Especially those moments when there is something on your face or something caught in your teeth. A friend will sit politely not saying anything while you make a fool out of yourself telling jokes with a giant booger hanging out of your face. A real friend will slip you a tissue and let you continue on with the punch lines. The 'friend' isn't necessarily bad, she/he is for the most part just being polite, doesn't want to hurt your feelings, or too shy to say anything about it. The 'true friend' on the other hand has your back through think and thin, even when the situation gets messy... like the tomato sauce smeared on your face.
